Chris
Chris is our CAD Jewelry Designer. He’s been part of the Colonial team in multiple capacities over the last 15 years, starting as an apprentice before becoming a bench jeweler. He has attended the New Approach School for Jewelers and Stuller, studying stone setting and earning multiple certifications in 3D jewelry design. Combining his background in Fine Arts with a deep understanding of jewelry mechanics, Chris leads our Custom by Colonial department, creating beautiful pieces that are thoughtfully designed to stand the test of time.
keith
Keith is one of our Expert Jewelers. He’s been with Colonial for the last seven years, expanding his knowledge and skills and working his way up from a jeweler. With the support of Sarah, who invested in his professional growth and the future of Colonial Jewelers, Keith attended the New Approach School in Nashville, TN, completing two advanced stone setting courses. While very quiet and humble, he is a perfectionist who takes his craft very seriously and handles every piece that comes through the shop with great care.
Roberto
Roberto is one of our Expert Jewelers. While new to Colonial, he brings thirty-six years of invaluable experience in the jewelry industry, and it shows in every piece he touches. Roberto attended GIA for Jewelry Manufacturing Arts and specializes in jewelry fabrication and repair. When you visit our showroom, look up at the shop overlooking the sales floor and you’ll likely find Roberto hard at work, and sharing laughs with other members of our shop.
William
William is one of our Apprentice Jewelers. He’s brand new to Colonial, fresh out of the New Approach Bench Jeweler program! We’re thrilled to have him in our shop, where he’s learning from a team of experienced jewelers with endless knowledge to share. In addition to his bench jeweler training, William has taken classes at The Delaplaine and earned both his CAD Operator Certification and a degree in General STEM Studies from Frederick Community College. So far his passions lie in stone setting and engraving!
carla
Carla is our Apprentice Goldsmith. She started with us in December, in the thick of the holiday season, eager to learn a craft that was brand new to her. With absolutely no prior experience, Carla has excitedly jumped all-in to her new role, taking in everything that Keith has to teach her. She’s one of the only people who truly enjoys pearl restringing (and she’s great at it).

FAQ's

Jewelry repair typically addresses one or more specific issues, like a broken clasp or a lost stone. Jewelry restoration is a more comprehensive process that brings an entire piece back to its original condition, addressing wear, damage, and finish all at once. Think of it as a full refresh versus a targeted fix. Our shop handles both in-house and we can help you determine which service is right for your piece.
We can restore a wide range of jewelry, including heirloom rings, vintage brooches, antique necklaces, estate earrings, and more. If a piece is too far gone to restore, we love the opportunity to replicate it through our custom department so the sentiment is never lost.
We work on everything entirely in-house. When your jewelry isn’t in the shop with our team of goldsmiths, it’s safely stored in our vault. Your jewelry never leaves the store until you pick it up!
Often, yes, but we can’t be sure until we take a look at it, so please bring it in with you. Even pieces that appear beyond saving can sometimes be fully restored, and if they can’t, we’ll be honest with you about your options before any work begins.
The best way to find out is to bring it in. Our team will evaluate the piece in person, walk you through what restoration would involve, and give you a realistic estimate of what’s achievable. There’s no obligation, and we’ll never begin work without your approval.
Our goal is always to honor the original design. We work to bring pieces back to how they looked when they were made, not modernize or alter them. If you have a specific vision or concern, just let us know and we’ll make sure we’re completely aligned before we start the work.
Yes. Re-engraving worn or faded inscriptions is something we can do in-house, provided it’s a piece we can engrave on. It’s a meaningful way to breathe new life into a sentimental piece. Bring it in so we can assess the existing engraving and discuss what’s possible.
Absolutely. Tarnishing, yellowing, and surface discoloration are some of the most common issues we address. Depending on the metal, the restoration process may include polishing, refinishing, and, for white gold, rhodium plating to bring it back to its original bright finish.
Yes, and we take great care to source stones that are a close match in cut, color, and size to preserve the integrity of the original piece.
Restoration timelines depend on the scope of work involved. A straightforward refinishing may be completed relatively quickly, while a complex multi-step restoration could take longer. We’ll give you a timeframe when you bring the piece in so there are no surprises.
Every restoration is unique, so pricing depends on the condition of the piece, the type of metal, the work involved, and any stones that need to be sourced or reset. We’ll provide an estimate in-store after examining your piece, before any work is done.
No appointment is necessary, though we recommend stopping by on a weekday if your schedule allows. If your piece requires a detailed consultation, making an appointment ensures you have dedicated time with one of our team members.
Work completed in our shop is backed by our quality craftsmanship standards. Ask a sales associate about warranty coverage specific to your restoration when you bring your piece in.
