OPERATIONAL QUESTIONS

Repair times can vary depending on the work that’s needed. We have three goldsmiths in store everyday and repairs are completed in-house. For the most accurate timeframe, bring your items in for us to see in person, and we can let you know before you leave them with us.

Almost all repairs are done in-house, with the very rare exception of occasionally needing to ship a piece out to trusted specialists off-site. However, the customer would be made aware of this before that step is taken. We have three very skilled goldsmiths in our shop who make it possible for almost all work to be done in our store.

Absolutely! We just require that you pay for shipping and insurance, which the sales associate can go over with you at take-in.

RINGS

The cost of sizing is a little different for each ring. There are a few variables like the metal type, how many stones the ring has, the condition of the piece and of course what the size difference will be. For most rings we can give you an estimate while you're in the store, but it is necessary to see the ring first.

To size your ring we actually add additional metal. Most rings would not be stretched. Our master jeweler does beautiful work and you would not ever know it was sized.

White gold jewelry has a Rhodium plating which is what makes it white gold and is often referred to as redipping. We offer a polish and refinishing service and white gold rings are always finished with Rhodium plating. Our experience has shown us that for the Rhodium plating to adhere properly the ring needs to first be refinished to polish out all of the scratches. If a ring is simply just dipped in Rhodium it will not last. We would recommend this service if you notice your ring begins to yellow, and it is not something we would do more often than every 12 months.

We love to reset family and sentimental gemstones and Diamonds of all kinds and have so many wonderful options to set them into and offer complete custom, too. Our master jeweler sets all in-house and we can appraise the stone if you would like to have it insured once reset.

Polishing is a service that is handled by our goldsmith in our shop and will remove any nicks and scratches from your piece. It also includes checking for any loose stones and tightening them to secure them. Rhodium plating is also completed at this time and your jewelry often looks just like new after the polishing.

Cleaning is a free service that we offer for any of your jewelry and keeps everything extra sparkly. We recommend having your jewelry cleaned and checked every six months and the process only takes a few minutes. When we clean and check your jewelry, we are checking for loose stones and damaged prongs, but we are not fixing them on the spot. If your jewelry needs extra attention or a visit to our shop, that is something the sales associate will discuss with you.

We are part of the Preferred Jewelers Network, meaning that there are other independent jewelry stores all over the country who provide the same clean and check services required for maintaining your warranty. You can go to any of these stores, have your rings cleaned and checked, and have your warranty records updated just the same as you do at Colonial.

OTHER JEWELRY REPAIRS

Yes, our in-house master jeweler does phenomenal work, so bring your bracelet in and we can get you an estimate.

Yes, we offer pearl restringing, which is also done in-house. We do, however, need to count the amount of pearls when you drop the piece off with us before you leave the store, so please prepare to wait for just a few minutes for that to be done.

Yes. Our shop can often completely restore older pieces, and if it can’t be restored, we love replicating in our custom department.

Yes. We can certainly repair silver jewelry. Like most repairs, it's best to see the piece in person to determine what repairs need to be done and give you an estimate and timeframe.

WATCHES

All watch repairs and changing of batteries are handled by our in-house goldsmith, so it depends on the type of watch, and our goldsmith's availability. Some batteries can be done as you wait, which can take about 15-30 minutes. If we need to take it in, it takes up to a week. It’s best to bring your watch in and let us see it in person to give you a definite answer about this.

APPRAISALS

Yes, you will leave your jewelry with us to be appraised. All appraisals are completed in-house by the owner, and the pieces do need to stay in the store. They will however be treated with care and will be stored in our safe while not with the owner.

Bring them in. We take a deposit for appraisal services, so if the appraiser finds that the item(s) are not worth the appraisal, we will not charge you for the remaining value for the appraisal and we will only keep your deposit. You will have paid for the service, and not for the appraisal. If you have more than one piece being appraised and you suspect some of those pieces might not be worth the appraisal, you can let the sales associate taking in the pieces know that you would prefer pieces of lower value not be appraised.

No, you do not need an appointment to have your jewelry appraised or to sell your jewelry. However, both services have the potential to be lengthy depending on the number of items you bring in, so we would recommend making an appointment. You’re of course welcome to drop in whenever it’s convenient for you without making an appointment, but we would recommend doing so on a weekday.

We do offer estate appraisals. Just let us know everything you need and the name of the estate when you bring the pieces to the store as well as if you need them to be valued at a fair market value for estate purposes.
