Colonial Jewelers History
Colonial Jewelers was founded in Westminster, MD in 1920 by Ben Hurwitz, a jeweler and clockmaker. In 1947, he was joined by his son Will and Will's wife Marilyn, who opened a second store in downtown Frederick, MD. Some years later the Westminster store closed. In 1973, their son, Jeffrey, entered the business, and he and his wife, Patty, are the current owners and operators of Colonial Jewelers. In 1998 Colonial Jewelers moved to the intersection of Market and Patrick Streets. Their daughter, Sarah, is active in the business and hopes to become the fourth generation Hurwitz to operate Colonial Jewelers.
From its inception, the owners of Colonial Jewelers have operated according to the Golden Rule, to treat their customers as they would want to be treated, and with the premise that they would only sell items that they themselves would be proud to own or give. A strict adherence to these two values are what has made Colonial Jewelers the premier source for quality jewelry and customer service in the Frederick area for over fifty years.
