Vermeil… the look of Gold for less!
June 21, 2011 By Elizabeth No CommentsDo you like that gold look but not the price tag? Gold jewelry is making its comeback in a big way, and most of us already got rid of all of our gold! With the cost of gold holding steady around $1500 an ounce on the stock market, how is it possible to keep up with fashion without breaking your bank? Vermeil.
What is Vermeil (pronounced ver-MAY)? It’s an electrolytic process of coating, or plating, sterling silver. Here’s the catch with vermeil. It MUST be pure sterling silver and cannot have any other coating with any other metal prior to the vermeil process. If all of this is the case, the sterling silver is then covered by a minimum of 10 karat gold, and that layer must be 2.5 microns or thicker (about 0.0001 of an inch).
One of the many benefits of vermeil is the similar appearance to that of gold, but the significant decrease in price in comparison. Another great benefit? Because vermeil, by definition, can’t contain other metals, people who have a sensitivity to certain metals or nickel allergies can wear it comfortably and safely!
We have PLENTY of vermeil pieces in stock and can’t wait to help you stay fashion forward!
