Did You Know???
April 28, 2011 By NancyI didn’t–until coming to work for Colonial Jewelers.
All gold is inherently yellow, but has the ability to change color when mixed with different metals, also known as alloys.
Some common alloys used to make white gold are palladium, silver, or zinc.
At Colonial, we use rhodium, a rare, silvery-white metal that is a member of the platinum group, to give our white gold pieces a bright, shiny finish.
White gold does have to be refinished occasionally, the frequency depending on your own body’s chemical composition, and how it reacts to gold, and how the piece is worn.
If you find that you are refinishing your jewelry on a fairly frequent basis, platinum may be a better choice for your future jewelry purchases.
