Bling it on! How to layer your jewelry
August 5, 2011 By Admin No CommentsHippie chic is one of this season’s hottest trends and it offers layering ideas that can be incorporated into all looks. Today, one piece just does not cut it. The key look for fall’s runway is layering your jewels. There is a way to do it, and like always there are rules to follow. I’m giving you a few pointers that will have you layering right and capturing “the hottest look.”
Here are some simple layering steps that I pulled from my own personal experiences and the professional stylists from Redbook.
Don’t be afraid to experiment! Jewelry is an expression of our style. The more you experiment the more you are comfortable creating your own style.
Don’t hesitate to combine metals. Throw out those old rules. Gold and silver compliment each other wonderfully. Different shapes and finishes will work together as a team.
Do layer big and bold! When layering necklaces make sure that they are all falling at different lengths to make the look work. It allows you to look put together and eliminates the lazissez faire hippie look.
Do focus on a simple color story. Pick one vibrant color that ties all the pieces together.
Do high contrast styles, because matching is not the name of the game.
Do mix the old with the new. Delicate pieces mingle well together. A dainty personalized charm necklace with a strand of crystal beads make for a unique, but elegant, look.
Trust me; these tips will lead you to a complete and modern look. It may not feel comfortable to do right away if you are an “all one-kind-of-metal girl,” but give it a whirl. Styles are cyclical and it is always fun to give something new a try. Follow the list and you will be noticed for your big and bold new look. Go for it! Bling it on!
