Learning to be a GIA Gemologist
April 28, 2011 By JulieGIA. Do you know what this stands for? No? We’ll tell you….Gemological Institute of America. GIA sets the standard in the jewelry industry worldwide. They are the authority on diamonds, pearls and colored stones. Yup! And we’re students there! Hi! We are Kandi, Lorraine and Julie and we work at Colonial Jewelers! We’re proudly studying to become certified Gemologists! This is a new and exciting career path for us. One of the first courses we took taught us the basics about diamonds and what makes them so special. Did you know that the graphite in your pencil and the diamond on your finger are both made only of carbon? The thing that makes one just graphite and the other a beautiful rare gem is the formation process! Next month we will reveal just how this happens! Stay tuned…
